The "Ōtsuchi Sashiko" is a craft where women from Ōtsuchi Town in Iwate stitch each piece with care, imbued with hopes and prayers for recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Paired with "Iwayado Craft," which uses scrap materials from the traditional Iwayado Tansu chests to create new items with the theme of "crafting items that become part of everyday life," these two elements come together to create a beautiful pincushion, proudly made in Iwate.

Ōtsuchi Sashiko × Iwayado Tansu: A New Made in Iwate Creation

The "Ōtsuchi Sashiko" is a hand-stitched craft made by women from Ōtsuchi Town in Iwate, each stitch infused with their hopes and prayers for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. Paired with "Iwayado Craft," which utilizes scrap materials from the traditional Iwayado Tansu chests to create new items under the theme of "crafting things that become part of daily life," these two elements come together to form a beautiful pincushion made in Iwate.

The combination of natural wood from Iwayado Craft and the carefully stitched sashiko fabric by the mothers of Ōtsuchi creates a warm, gentle texture that emanates a comforting sense of wood and craftsmanship. The wood is lacquered, and over time, you can enjoy the changing hues that develop, adding to its charm.
