Sakiori Weave Kappōgi Apron
Sakiori Weave Kappōgi Apron
Evolving from the “Western apron” of the Meiji era, the kappogi (traditional Japanese smock apron) gained popularity in cooking schools attended by young women from well-to-do families. Originally, it featured long sleeves and an extended length to fully cover and protect kimono.
Today, we’ve updated this classic design to fit modern lifestyles with added functionality and style. This Kappogi Sashiko features a longer hem and sleeves, perfect for those looking to wear it with an elegant touch. Sleeves can be rolled up conveniently for water-based tasks, and the loop for holding a hand towel is crafted from repurposed fabric leftover from the dyeing process, woven in a sashiko pattern.
Designed to be worn front or back, this versatile piece works beautifully as casual wear both inside and outside the kitchen.

Just Slip It On – The Magic Apron that Transforms You into a Household Pro
The kappogi retains the timeless appeal of traditional Japanese aprons while adapting to the needs of today’s lifestyle. The neck ties have been updated for easy adjustment, allowing you to fine-tune the fit without retying, so you can slip it on and off effortlessly and start your day smoothly.
The round neckline complements any outfit, while the sleeves feature mojiri-sode, a traditional design used in artisans’ jackets, allowing for ease of movement. For tasks involving water, the sleeves can be rolled up and secured with a button to keep them out of the way.
On the left pocket, you’ll find an upcycled sashiko-style loop made from hand-dyed tenugui cloth by Kyoya Dye Works, offering a unique touch of craftsmanship. With broader coverage than a typical apron, this kappogi provides extra protection against spills and odors, making it ideal for a variety of household tasks.
A Natural, Comfortable Fit You’ll Never Want to Take Off
Crafted from linen-cotton canvas, this kappogi apron grows softer and richer in color with use. Its natural fibers provide excellent insulation and breathability, making it well-suited to Japan’s four-season climate.
With convenient pockets on each side sized perfectly for a smartphone, you can also carry essentials like keys, notes, or a wallet. This apron features a versatile 2-way design, allowing it to be worn front or back. It’s ideal for cooler days or as a quick, stylish cover-up when heading out.
